The Cap fits for Rooney

Fabio Capello is convinced he has found the way to bring the best out of Wayne Rooney. The Manchester United striker has been outstanding in his last two performances for England, despite being the subject of unwanted headlines off the pitch. He scored his first international goal of 2010 in Tuesday's 3-1 win against Switzerland ending a frustrating year playing for his country and Capello believes his star man is once again ready to be England's talisman. Rooney played behind Jermain Defoe for each of the Euro 2012 qualifying victories against Bulgaria and Switzerland, which now looks set to be made his permanent role. Capello said: Wayne Rooney played very well. Mentally he was okay and scoring the goal helped too. "This position is good for him. It is easy for him to get into positions to shoot." Rooney responded perfectly to the allegations that have been made about his personal life with a goal after 10 minutes to put England on course to victory in Basle. After a disappointing World Cup and international dry spell in front of goal, it was just the tonic for the 24-year-old. Capello revealed he was never in doubt that the striker would deliver. "I had seen he had been okay in training, now he plays an official game really well," said the England manager. "The players want to play without other things on their minds. They can focus on the game alone. He did that. At the end, he was really happy."
