Tevez issues contract plea
17 Sep 2008 - 07:53:57
Carlos Tevez has urged Manchester United to offer him a long-term contract in order to make his loan move into a permanent transfer.
Tevez, 24, arrived at Old Trafford on a two-year loan contract in August 2007 and helped the club to a Premier League and Champions League double last season.
The Argentina international netted 19 times in 48 appearances last term and is desperate to seal a permanent switch to the Red Devils.
It is believed United would have to pay around £30million to acquire his services before his loan deal expires.
"From the first moment I came here I would have loved to sign a long-term contract," said Tevez.
"Last year was a very happy season and it would be wonderful if the chairman put a long-term contract in front of me.
"If he did that I would sign it without a doubt."
Meanwhile, Tevez has backed United to bounce back from Saturday's 2-1 defeat to rivals Liverpool when they open their Champions League campaign with the visit of Spanish side Villarreal on Wednesday evening.
"Whenever we lost a game last season we came back and showed ourselves to be stronger," he continued.
"That was the reason we won two titles last year. I am sure we will see a reaction from the players tonight."
