Sven - Owen equals goals

Sven Goran Eriksson has backed Michael Owen to return to his free-scoring ways in the new season. Owen has struggled for form and fitness during recent years and he suffered relegation with Newcastle United last term. However, the striker has since been handed a lifeline by Manchester United, with manager Sir Alex Ferguson securing his services on a free transfer. Owen has impressed during pre-season for United, and former England manager Eriksson is delighted to see the 29-year-old enjoying his football once more. The Notts County director of football told Sky Sports News: "I am very pleased to see Michael back and injury-free. "He has been extremely unlucky with injuries, one after the other. He has been out more than he has played during the last years. "Of course if Michael Owen is fit and is playing regularly he is a man that can play in the World Cup, but that is up to (Fabio) Capello. "A fit Michael Owen means goals scored." Eriksson also praised England's progress under Italian coach Fabio Capello, with the side winning all of their opening seven Group 6 qualifying matches. He added: "The team is good. Fabio Capello is a good manager. They are almost qualified and they will qualify."
