Sir Alex does England a favour by choosing Ben Foster for Manchester United

Sir Alex Ferguson will give England manager Fabio Capello a huge boost by naming Ben Foster as Manchester United's first team goalkeeper for the start of the season. Ferguson has opted to play Foster ahead of Poland's Tomasz Kuszczak for United's Community Shield curtain-raiser against Chelsea and promised him that a good performance will be rewarded with a run in the team while first-choice Edwin van der Sar recovers from a broken finger. The news will delight Capello, who is desperate for Foster to get enough first team football to have a chance of playing for England at next summer's World Cup. Ferguson said he had taken England's interests into account for the first time in deciding that Foster, 26, will play at Wembley before joining up with his international team-mates for their friendly in Holland on Wednesday. Ferguson said: 'Deep down I think Ben Foster will be England's goalkeeper but I know he needs to play for us for that to happen. 'I don't want the boy to miss the opportunity of playing for his country.'
