Silvestre intends to stay

Manchester United defender Mikael Silvestre intends to stay at Old Trafford and fight to regain his first-team place.

Silvestre, 29, is currently sidelined with a long-term shoulder injury but has struggled to force his way into Sir Alex Ferguson's reckoning since the arrival of Nemanja Vidic and Patrice Evra 18 months ago.

The France international has previously been linked with a switch to Lyon, but Silvestre claims he is happy to stay at Old Trafford.

"I still have two years on my contract," he told the Daily Star Sunday.

"The manager did everything to keep me last summer and told me recently he has confidence in me.

"I can confirm I'll be in Manchester next year."

Silvestre has made over 300 appearances for United since arriving from Internazionale in 1999.
