Manchester United defender Mikael Silvestre faces a lengthy spell out of action after sustaining a potentially serious knee injury during the 1-0 victory at Everton.
The 30-year-old Frenchman had to be stretchered from the field just before half-time and Red Devils boss Sir Alex Ferguson is anxiously waiting on the results of a scan.
He confirmed after the win: "It's a knee injury. We'll send him for a scan and wait to see what comes of it."
Ferguson added of the hard-fought victory at Goodison Park: "We are delighted with the win because people will see an improved Everton this season. Teams will find it very hard coming here.
"It's a bit of a concern that we are not scoring as many goals as we want, but until we get everyone back we will play like this.
"We are determined, we have a good team ethic, we have got a good shape and we had good passing."
The veteran Scot went on to confirm that Wayne Rooney will return from injury in the midweek Champions League clash with Sporting Lisbon, concluding: "He will be fit for Wednesday, he only started training on Monday.
"After only five days he is a bit short of fitness, he trained today and will train again tomorrow and through until Wednesday."
