Show yourselves Knights
SO the Red Knights may well one day ride into town and save United from the Glazers and all that nasty debt. But before they do, M.E.N. Sport makes this noble plea: Identify yourselves. One of the biggest problems the Glazers have had is convincing the United faithful of their intentions particularly during these days of global recession. It is a problem of their making in that they don't engage with the masses having rarely given an interview in their good ol' US of A homeland and certainly never here in the UK. The owners were at Wembley on Sunday as United picked up their first piece of silverware of the season but the majority of swirling scarves were not red and white but green and gold. And the giant banners members of the Glazer family could not fail to have noticed bore the legend LUHG ie Love United - Hate the Glazers. Even that very public display of unrest has not prompted a response, apart from a curt comment on Monday evening that they simply did not want to sell the club. It could, to maintain the medieval jousting theme, be all sabre rattling. But in the battle for the all important hearts and minds of the people who really matter - the fans - the Glazers must surely have already accepted defeat on the grounds they have never competed, prefering to stay completely in the background with the team doing the talking on the pitch. So if the Knights and their MUST foot soldiers are to ram home their advantage in the media stakes they need to build on the superbly effective Green and Gold campaign and name the so-called 50 Knights willing to fund the reputed £1bn bid for the club. We could do without secret this and hush hush that. The fans need to know exactly who wants to takeover, why and what they would do if they did - and sooner rather than later.
