    Season over for Hargreaves

    11 Nov 2008 - 19:07:28

Manchester United midfielder Owen Hargreaves will miss the rest of the season after flying to the USA to try and get to the bottom of ongoing knee problems.

The 27-year-old England international has already undergone surgery on his right knee and faces another operation on his left knee in a couple of weeks' time, having been dogged by tendinitis during his time with the Red Devils.

Hargreaves had featured just three times this season, with United boss Sir Alex Ferguson becoming increasingly worried by his player's problems.

He had earlier said: "What we're trying to do now is to get to the root of it. He's been frustrated and patient, but we've never really got to the bottom of it.

"We really need to speed that up now, which is why we're sending him to the best people available to try and get a general opinion of where to go from there.

"He's in pain when he runs. Tendinitis is a problem when he gets involved in football-related training, that's when it resurfaces.

"He came back last season and played in a number of very important games, but now he's out again.

"It's difficult and frustrating for the lad and we want to help him."
