Scholes suffers knee woe
23 Jul 2007 - 16:40:25
Manchester United midfielder Paul Scholes is expected to miss the start of the season after being told he could be out for a month with a knee injury.
The 32-year-old former England international has been sent home from United's pre-season tour of the Far East to have an exploratory operation on the problem.
"Paul felt his knee in the last game (against FC Seoul) and we've sent him home for an arthoscope to see what kind of damage there is," United boss Sir Alex Ferguson told the club's official website.
"We don't think it's serious, but we'll keep him out for about three weeks to a month."
Meanwhile, Ferguson singled out summer signing Nani for special praise as United thrashed Chinese side Shenzhen FC 6-0 in the latest leg of their pre-season tour.
The Portuguese winger got on the scoresheet, and Ferguson said: "He did very well. It was his first game after an injury, but I was pleased.
"Everyone had a share of the action. In the final game I will hopefully be able to give the likes of Phil Bardsley, Danny Simpson and Dong Fangzhuo more football.
"I thought young Darron Gibson, who has been out injured, did well in midfield. It shows the judgement in bringing him to the club, it's good to see the results of our scouting missions."
