Scholes concern at disruption
11 Sep 2008 - 11:22:40
Paul Scholes is hoping the absence of several key players to international duty does not cost Manchester United the chance of victory in Saturday's clash with bitter rivals Liverpool.
Scholes, 33, has been one of only a handful of first-team players at the club's Carrington training complex during the ten-day international break having retired from England duty four years ago.
United's international contingent are all due back in training on Friday - just 24 hours before Saturday's high-profile clash - and Scholes is keeping his fingers crossed that they can all hit the ground running.
"There have been four or five of us training and that does disrupt it massively - especially when we have an early kick-off on Saturday," he told MUTV.
"We will get an hour of training probably on Friday. Sometimes it helps and sometimes it doesn't. We will just have to wait and see on Saturday.
"It's the same for every team. Liverpool will have a lot of players out. Chelsea will have every player out as well.
"These are historically tough games and whenever you play them it isn't any different. You need to play these games at some stage during the season."
