Ruined reunion: How mentor Fergie has the hold over his United old boys
Published: 14 May 2009 - 07:53:42
Sir Alex Ferguson has inspired a number of his former players to follow in his footsteps and move into management at the end of their careers. Six of his former Manchester United charges have become Premier League managers since hanging up their boots - but unsurprisingly, Fergie's fledglings have rarely got the better of the old master. That's nothing to be ashamed of. Few manager's in Europe have regularly held the upper hand over Ferguson - and it's no different for his former United players. Only Gordon Strachan, Mark Hughes and Bryan Robson have recorded wins over Ferguson and the United boss has lost a total of just five games out of 53 against his United old boys. Steve Bruce was the latest to take on his old mentor last night but despite seeing his Wigan side snatch the lead, he was again on the losing side.
