Roy Keane insists he is ready for management return

ShareRoy Keane has vowed to return to football management whenthe time and the club is right. The former Manchester United captain has been out of worksince January when he was sacked by Ipswich Town. Keane, who has dismissed talk of working in Australia or NewZealand as 'nonsense' says he is enjoying his longest break from the game, butcould be ready to make a return next season. And he says he has learnedmistakes from his spell at Portman Road. Talking up his chances: Keane ready for a return to the touchline next season He said: 'I want a club to take to the very top. Sunderlandwas so close, even in my third season there, we just had a few poor resultswhich every manager goes through.' `I am a young manager, and you are always learningtactically. I would have to look at my staff, that is a vital part of footballmanagement, and you need to work with good players, that helps. And we had somereally good players at Sunderland. 'You need good characters. I would learn from my mistakesparticularly at Ipswich and I think potentially I could be a good manager. Butpotential is one thing. Going out and doing it is something very different. 'If you don't make mistakes, you never learn. I had a threemonth break after Sunderland and Ipswich felt right. My only regret is I agreedto take it before I met the chief executive, I won't be doing that again. Master and pupil: Keane will be hoping he can experience some of the joy his former boss Ferguson (right) is tasting 'Sometimes the DNA doesn't work and doesn't suit. Look atRoy Hodgson, and I'm not comparing myself to him, but him at Liverpool, thedynamics were not right and Ipswich in the end was just not right and the chiefexecutive role is vital when you are working with someone so closely. 'I have been out for a couple of months and I am enjoying mybit of time off because part of my problem, is when I am involved, I aminvolved 100 per cent and that takes its toll on you; not that I am going tokeel over but it is time to re-charge the batteries and take stock and see whatis round the corner. 'A club might give me an opportunity but if it doesn't comeI have some freedom and I will make the most of that.' Familiar foes: Keane is confident United can overcome Barcelona following their 2009 final loss Keane has yet to venture to Old Trafford, or to watch theRepublic of Ireland at the new Aviva Stadium, but he has been an avid viewer ofthe conclusion to Manchester United's season, watching most of their games ontelevision. 'With the sound turned down,' he added. The former United skipper says Sir Alex Ferguson's currentgroup can beat Barcelona in the Wembley final to lift the club's third Europeancrown. He added: 'At Wembley, the United fans will take over thestadium. In a one-off game, with fans behind them, of course they can do it. 'They will have to do really well to beat this Barcelonateam and my concern would be not picking up injuries. The Barcelona starting XIis brilliant, outstanding, but their squad is probably not as strong asUnited's. 'If they come through the end of their season fit, and theymight get to rest players if they wrap up the Spanish league, they can restUnited and would do well to get a result.'  Bring on Barca! 19th title is all but won so Fergie looks to Wembley showdownWe'll dominate league for years: Fergie puts faith in United's new generationJamie Redknapp: My dream XI from Sir Alex's golden era at Manchester UnitedAll the latest Manchester United news, features and opinion  Explore more:People: Alex Ferguson, Roy Keane Places: Liverpool, Barcelona, Australia, Ireland
