Villarreal have won the chase to sign Manchester United striker Giuseppe Rossi, beating off competition from several Italian clubs.
The 20-year-old Italy Under-21 international will move to El Madrigal for an undisclosed fee, having decided to leave Old Trafford in search of regular first-team football.
Rossi impressed in scoring nine goals in 19 games while on loan at Parma last season and had seemed set to stay with the Red Devils, saying on his return: "My main goal is still what it always has been - that's to cut it with Manchester United."
However, the American-born goalgetter has now opted to try his luck in Spain, with the club where United misfit Diego Forlan re-launched his career, before joining Atletico Madrid this summer.
Rossi scored four goals in 14 appearances for United during nearly three years with the club, while he also spent the first half of last season with Newcastle United, where he netted once in 13 outings.
