Ross Barkley could follow Rooney from Everton to Manchester United for 50 million

With Louis van Gaal now fully focused on the task of making Manchester United number one again it appears plenty of players are being looked at for the next big evolution of the squad. Van Gaal has already pointed out issues with the wind at the training ground which is now in the process of being fixed. The squad would appear to be the next part of the puzzle and the manager who has already spent £60m will likely be looking at creative options and the central defensive area.

It has been reported in the Daily Star that Manchester United one of a host of teams looking to lure Ross Barkley to their cause. The 20-year-old impressed in his performances last term for Everton as well as in glimpses at the World Cup this summer. Premier League big-boys Chelsea, Liverpool and the champions Man City are all keeping tabs on the midfielder.

Ross Barkley has been with Everton since coming into the youth setup in 2005 and had loan spells at Sheffield Wednesday and Leeds. The midfielder from Liverpool has made 47 senior appearances for Everton, scoring 6 goals and since his breakthrough season in 2013 has gone on to star for England on international duty.

Although £50million sounds like an awful lot of money even for the Premier League it looks like that figure would have to be reached as Manchester City seem ready to splash out despite their financial fair play difficulties to acquire the twinkle-toed No10. For City it seems Ross Barkley would be the replacement to Yaya Toure should the attempts to engineer a move to PSG continue and they are forced to sell say the Guardian. It seems City are prepared to spend big according to the report to stop United getting their man.
