    Rooney's form on the rise

    13 Feb 2007 - 13:22:43

Sir Alex Ferguson believes that the return to top form of Wayne Rooney has come just in time to ensure that Manchester United hold off Chelsea for the Premiership title.

Rooney had struggled after injury earlier in the season but, after finding the net just once in 13 outings, the England ace has now scored four times in his last four games.

Ferguson said: "If Wayne can reach the kind of form he achieved this time last year we have got an even better chance.

"He was devastating last year and there are glimpses of that coming back now.

"Scoring against Arsenal, his double against Portsmouth and another one against Watford - these are all signs that he is getting back."

Meanwhile, Ferguson is more than happy with the overall form of his squad, with a crucial few months on the horizon.

He added: "There is no question we are in a good position.

"You can never take anything for granted but what encourages me, whether we are at home or away, is the form of our team.

"They are enjoying their football and they are playing without any sign of nerves, which is great to see.

"We are very excited about the coming months, but we need to stay there in the melting pot right until the very end of the season."
