Rooney rues number of defeats

Wayne Rooney believes Manchester United have lost too many games this season to be crowned Premier League champions. Seven league defeats have left Chelsea in the box seat to end United's three-year reign at the pinnacle of English football. The Red Devils could still retain their crown should they overcome Stoke City and Chelsea lose at home to Wigan Athletic in Sunday's final round of fixtures. However, the 34-goal England striker has conceded that losing seven games in a 38-game domestic season is too many. "If we could have stayed more consistent and not lost so many games we would have won the league, but we've lost too many games," Rooney said in The Sun. "We shouldn't be losing seven games at this club." Referring to other low points in the season, he added: "The FA Cup (third-round) defeat to Leeds was not good enough. As for the Champions League, we were a bit unlucky considering the way we started against Bayern. "I couldn't see us losing that tie. But we went out on away goals and it was hard to take."
