Rooney is Uniteds top gun

Published: 01 Feb 2010 - 09:00:56

Ton-up Wayne Rooney spoke of his pride after firing United's title charge. The champions, boosted by the Reds' talisman who is ready to commit himself to Old Trafford for life, are now breathing down leaders Chelsea's neck. Rooney, 24, reached a marvellous milestone when he scored his 100th Premier League goal at the Emirates as the Reds overwhelmed rivals Arsenal 3-1. His strike could not have been better timed as it came only hours after United's chief executive David Gill said that the club would be looking to secure the hitman on a new contract that would break club records and reach up to £170,000-a-week. Modest centurion Rooney said: "It's something I'm very proud of. It's a great feeling to play in the Premier League and score 100 goals. "Hopefully there's many more to come but I'm really pleased at the minute. "We let Arsenal have a bit of possession and then we counter-attacked and we were deadly. "We should have done even better but at 3-0 the game was over." Is Rooney now the best striker in world football? Have your say.
