Rooney happy with away form

Wayne Rooney is thankful Manchester United have managed to put last season's Barclays Premier League away-day nightmare behind them.

United managed to secure a record 19th league title last term despite winning just five games away from Old Trafford. It was their worst return in a championship-winning campaign. Indeed, only two sides have won a 20-plus club title with fewer.

Already this term United have doubled that number and it should rise still further when they visit relegation-threatened Wolves on Sunday. Rooney told www.manutd.com: "Last season was a nightmare really in terms of our away form. We knew we had to put that right and there's been a real determination about us away from home this season."

He added: "That's definitely helped us get us results and win games.

"Hopefully it will continue between now and the end of the season because if we keep getting the results away from home we'll have a great chance of winning the title."

Last term Wolves were bottom when they entertained United at Molineux but still managed to inflict their visitors' first defeat of the season, coming from behind to do so.

It is a record that demands maximum concentration for all the upheaval Wolves have suffered following the departure of Mick McCarthy last month.

"Wolves are fighting for their lives after going through a bit of a sticky patch in the last few months and seeing Mick McCarthy leave," said Rooney.

"I'm sure it's been hard for them to lift themselves, but from our point of view when you go to the home of a team fighting to survive it's always very difficult.

"We've had tough games there in the last couple of seasons and we certainly need to be at our best to win."
