Rooney cleared over stamp
15 Dec 2008 - 15:48:52
UEFA have decided to take no action against Wayne Rooney for his alleged stamp on Kasper Risgard during Manchester United's 2-2 Champions League draw with Aalborg.
French referee Laurent Duhamel did not see the incident during the Old Trafford stalemate last Wednesday, with UEFA deciding to study video footage of the incident as a result.
However, they have now decided that Rooney has no case to answer and the threat of a possible suspension has been removed.
Risgard himself had called for Rooney to be cleared over the incident, saying: "I heard UEFA is looking at this, but I don't think Rooney should be suspended.
"I do not think the referee saw it. Anywhere else but this place (Old Trafford) it would have been a red card.
"I have some big marks and I do not think it looks good on television.
"But these challenges happen in football and Wayne came up to me immediately and apologised. I appreciated that and I have nothing against him."
