Roo better watch out

Phil Jagielka has warned Wayne Rooney he is going to get verbally slaughtered at Goodison Park on Saturday. And the Everton defender admits he will be  giving his England team-mate some stick himself when the United striker faces his former club in the Premier League clash. But Jagielka believes Rooney is strong enough to take it and will answer his critics with his performances on the pitch. Despite scoring for the national team in their 3-1 win over Switzerland in Basle on Tuesday night, Rooney is set for a rough ride from opposition fans following the allegations over his private life. And none more so than in the next few weeks as after United take on Everton, who he left under a cloud to move to Old Trafford, they face Rangers in the Champions League followed by arch- rivals Liverpool in the Premier League. Jagielka, however, insists Rooney will let his football do the talking. There is a good chance he will get slaughtered at Goodison, said Jagielka. He normally gets quite a bit of stick anyway I can't see that changing come Saturday. I've spoken to him about it and I'll be giving him a little bit as well if he plays on Saturday. But I am sure Wayne can deal with it. He is a tough lad and he will let his football do the talking. I will enjoy the battle against him. I like playing against good players and Wayne is definitely a good player. It is always a tough battle. Rooney shrugged off his off-field controversies to play a key role in England's triumph on Tuesday, and Jagielka says the scandal doesn't seem to have affected the 24-year-old. He seems his normal self, he said. It was always going to be a hard night for Wayne but he did what he is put in the team for. He created some good chances as well as scoring when he was the right man at the right time. Meanwhile, the parents of the woman whom Rooney is allegedly to have paid for sex has apologised to the footballer's wife, Coleen. Hamish and Dana Thompson spoke out after the claims that their daughter Jennifer regularly slept with Rooney while his wife was pregnant. We would like to offer our most sincere apologies to Coleen Rooney and her family, said Mr and Mrs Thompson in a statement. This may sound somewhat hollow, but my wife and I would never condone what has or may have happened. We had absolutely no idea about any of the allegations and claims that have been made.
