Real Madrid defender Fabio Cannavaro has told Cristiano Ronaldo to honour his Manchester United contract rather than look to join him at the Spanish club.
The Italy captain believes players who sign long-term deals should 'respect' their contracts and has hit out at FIFA president Sepp Blatter following his comments which likened footballers to 'modern slaves'.
Speaking last week, Blatter said that no player should be forced to remain at a club against their will in a speech which has been criticised from all corners of the footballing world.
"Slavery is a big word," Cannavaro told La Gazzetta dello Sport.
"Someone who signs a contract must respect it."
Ronaldo has been linked with a move to Real Madrid throughout the summer despite United claiming the Portugal international is not for sale.
The 23-year-old is just 12 months into a five-year contract with the Old Trafford club.
But his future remains unclear as Ronaldo has dropped a series of hints throughout the summer suggesting he is keen to join the Spanish champions.
However, the Portugal winger will be out of action for the next 12 weeks as he recovers from recent ankle surgery.
