Ronaldo to defy Fergie
13 Nov 2006 - 13:03:11
Manchester United winger Cristiano Ronaldo has declared himself fit to play in Portugal's Euro 2008 qualifier against Kazakhstan on Wednesday.
United boss Sir Alex Ferguson had said at the weekend that the ankle injury Ronaldo suffered during the 1-0 win at Blackburn on Saturday would rule him out of the Kazakhstan match but the 21-year-old looks set to defy his club manager.
"I am fine," said Ronaldo. "It was just a small knock. I think one day or two will be enough to be back to 100 per cent.
"The only thing I can say is that, on Wednesday, I will be fine for playing."
Ferguson had earlier said: "Cristiano has got an ankle knock, but he (Portugal boss Luis Felipe Scolari) will decide in the best interests of the boy and the team.
"It's against Kazakhstan, so you'd have thought Portugal could handle that without Ronaldo, but if he's got one of these injuries which is 50-50, I hope he doesn't play."
