Ronaldo praises Owen capture

Cristiano Ronaldo believes Sir Alex Ferguson may have pulled off a transfer masterstroke in landing Michael Owen. The Portuguese's world record move to Real Madrid has left the Scot scratching his head to work out how to replace his primary goalscorer. Owen's capture following a disappointing four-year spell at Newcastle raised more than the odd eyebrow but Ronaldo has backed his former taskmaster Ferguson's decision. The one-time Liverpool favourite has inherited Ronaldo's number seven shirt and the Real new boy has tipped him for success in Manchester. "Manchester United did well to give him the number seven," Ronaldo said. "He is a great player, an English player. He has everything to win there. He is at a fantastic club." Owen is expected to make his Manchester United debut on Saturday against Malaysia in the first game of their tour of the Far East. United have had to call off the Indonesian leg of the tour following two bomb blasts at tourist hotels in Jakarta.
