Ronaldo eyes early return

Injured Manchester United winger Cristiano Ronaldo believes he could be back in action by the end of September.

The Portugal international has started the new campaign on the sidelines after being sent for surgery on a long-running ankle problem following Euro 2008.

Initial estimates suggested Ronaldo could be out of action until late October, but last season's 42-goal top-scorer has given a much brighter assessment of his current fitness.

"I am feeling fine. I am feeling really good and my recovery is going well," he revealed.

"I am more than happy with my progress and I hope to be back playing for United by the end of September. That is my target and it is a realistic one.

"It has been frustrating to miss the start of the Premier League season but I am pleased with my rehabilitation and, hopefully, I'll be ready soon."
