Ronaldo doubt for Europe
24 Nov 2008 - 08:12:23
Sir Alex Ferguson has revealed that Cristiano Ronaldo is a major doubt for Manchester United's Champions League clash with Villarreal on Tuesday.
The Portugal winger was substituted towards the end of Saturday's goalless draw with Aston Villa and hobbled off the Villa Park pitch with an ankle problem.
The 23-year-old missed the opening five weeks of the season following ankle surgery and may not be risked for the trip to Spain with Sunday's derby against Manchester City also looming on the horizon.
United are currently sitting in a strong position at the top of Group E and require only one point from their two remaining games to qualify for the knock-out stages.
"His leg's in a mess, to be honest with you," Ferguson told MUTV.
"He'll be doubtful for Tuesday, I'm sure of that."
United will definitely be without Wes Brown, Paul Scholes and Owen Hargreaves for the clash with Villarreal, but Darren Fletcher could return from a knee injury in time to make the trip.
