Rio Ferdinand delighted to be back for Manchester United

Back from injury: Manchester United's Rio Ferdinand Rio Ferdinand was pleased to make his first appearance of the season for Manchester United against Rangers even if it did up a 0-0 draw. Ferdinand was one of 10 players brought into the starting line-up in Tuesday' night's Champions League clash withonly Darren Fletcher retaining his place following the weekend's six-goal thrillerwith Everton. It was the defender's first appearance since May 30 when he played in England's final World Cup warm-up match against Japan - and first for United since the last game of the season against Stoke on May 9. Ferdinand had been struggling with back and groin injuries and then a knee ligament problem in England's first World Cup training session in South Africa ruled him out of the tournament. He told MUTV: 'It was nice to be back, playing football. I've waited a long time. Rangers put everything in front of goal and you have to respect that. A lot of teams come to Old Trafford and defend for their lives and we end up breaking them down. 'Today that just wasn't possible. The only thing we can take from this is that we didn't lose the game and we didn't concede. It's a point and hopefully we can still qualify.'  Antonio Valencia will recover from horrific ankle injury, insist Manchester United Manchester United 0 Rangers 0: Fergie's flops hit the wall as Reds are held in Champions League openerMANCHESTER UNITED FC
