Rio defends under-fire Red Devils
17 Sep 2010 - 08:33:10
Rio Ferdinand claims Manchester United are frustrated with results but not necessarily performances ahead of Sunday's Premier League showdown with rivals Liverpool.
The Red Devils have drawn two of their last three league games after conceding late equalisers - 2-2 at Fulham and 3-3 with Everton last weekend - while Tuesday's Champions League opener against Rangers ended in a goalless stalemate.
Sir Alex Ferguson's side have been criticised for leaking too many goals and not being ruthless enough up front.
However, Ferdinand claims there is little wrong with the level of performance they are producing and has set his sights on answering the critics when Liverpool arrive at Old Trafford.
"This kind of game is always good for galvanising spirit and belief," he stated.
"You would be beating one of your closest rivals, so to win this game would be great for team morale.
"Hopefully it will put us on the crest of a wave.
"There is a frustration with results but not with performance.
"We have been in commanding positions, so not to come away with six points from those two games is disappointing.
"But overall, we are pleased with the way we are playing.
"We have been scoring goals freely, including five in two games away from home.
"The main point is that we have to finish them off."
