Rio Declared Fit After 45 Mins v Oldham

Published: 02 Sep 2010 - 00:33:26

Manchester United reserve team boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer watched Rio Ferdinand play 45 minutes of a reserve game with Oldham Athletic and declared the England captain fit again. Tonight was the first time Ferdinand had seen any action since he got injured in a freak accident with Emile Heskey during the first training session for England at the World Cup finals. "Rio is always the same player. It is a while since he has played but he was still calm," said Solskjaer "He has got through an important 45 minutes, straight after two very hard training sessions Tuesday and the day before so we are delighted with him." Solskjaer was also quick to kill off speculation that Ferdinand was taken off because of his injury coming back. Solskjaer confirmed he is raring to go. "There was no problem whatsoever," he added. "It was always planned that he would play 45 minutes. I am not sure he needs any more games. Rio is a naturally fit lad. "It was about distances and getting tighter to the ball. Now he is available for selection again."
