Red Devils train without Rooney
06 Apr 2010 - 12:00:24
Manchester United are unlikely to welcome back injured striker Wayne Rooney for Wednesday's European showdown with Bayern Munich.
Weekend reports suggested the 34-goal striker could make a shock return to the United ranks for the second leg of their Champions League quarter-final encounter at Old Trafford after taking part in a 'secret' training session.
Rooney damaged ankle ligaments during last week's 2-1 first leg defeat in Germany and was, according to manager Sir Alex Ferguson, facing "two to three weeks" on the sidelines.
However, Rooney was a notable absence when the United players were put their paces at Carrington on Tuesday morning.
Rooney is more likely to make his comeback against local rivals Manchester City in a Premier League derby on Saturday April 17.
Meanwhile, the Red Devils were boosted by the return of John O'Shea to training.
The versatile defender has been out of action since early November with a thigh problem.
