Real Madrid's general manager Jorge Valdano has dismissed speculation linking the Spanish giants with a move to sign Manchester United's England ace Wayne Rooney.
The 24-year-old is rumoured to be close to agreeing a new long-term contract at Old Trafford, with Valdano admitting that Rooney is out of Real's reach.
He told Radio COPE: "He is extraordinary, very, very good.
"Rooney is English, we all know they find it difficult to adapt to another type of competition other than the Premier League.
"He is a very interesting player, but we have not ever been interested."
Rooney himself had played down talk of a move to Spain, telling his the club's official website: "There's always speculation and when other big teams are talking about you, it's nice that you're talked about.
"But as I've said many times before, I'm a United player and I'm very happy here."
