Real aim for swift Ronaldo deal
11 Jun 2009 - 13:00:11
Real Madrid are hoping to complete the signing of Cristiano Ronaldo in 'the next few days' after being given permission by Manchester United to open negotiations with the Portugal star.
United have accepted a world record £80million bid for the 24-year-old World and European footballer of the year and Madrid intend to waste little time in acquiring Ronaldo's signature.
The Spanish club have already signed Brazil superstar Kaka from AC Milan for a fee in excess of £55millon this week.
"Real Madrid can confirm that an offer to Manchester United to acquire the rights of Cristiano Ronaldo has been accepted," read a club statement.
"The club hope to reach an agreement with the player in the next few days."
Ronaldo is currently on holiday in Los Angeles but reports claim that officials from Real have already jetted out to the US to start the ball rolling on the transfer.
He and Kaka could be presented at a joint media conference at the Santiago Bernabeu as early as the middle of next week.
