    Rafael pens new United deal

    27 Apr 2009 - 12:54:54

Manchester United have rewarded Rafael Da Silva with a new long-term contract following his emergence on the first-team scene this season.

The 18-year-old Brazilian has put pen to paper on a contract which will keep him at Old Trafford until summer 2013 after making 24 appearances during his breakthrough season.

"Everyone at the club has been very impressed and excited by his first year as a professional," manager Sir Alex Ferguson told the club's official website.

"His enthusiasm and the adventurous way he plays is typical of a Manchester United player and we're delighted that he's signed a new contract."

Meanwhile, the teenage South American revealed he was delighted to put pen to paper following an exciting debut season in the first team.

He said: "It has been a fantastic first year and I have been learning from all the players at the club but especially from the defence.

"It's been an exciting time for me and I want to be part of this for a long time so to get an extension is unbelievable."
