Updated published : 10 Dec 2012 15:28:01Rss feed
Another weekend of exciting Barlcays Premier League Football, and all of us here at football.co.uk have put together a Team of the Week. The team is based on individual performances for their respected sides and how their performance aided the result.
In a weekend which has seen Manchester United cement their lead over Manchester City to six points, and Liverpool climb into the Top 10 of the Premier League. Tottenham lost out to Everton in the top four and QPR are still winless.
Southampton and Nigel Adkins look to have escaped the early threat of relegation worries as they climbed to 15th, whilst Newcastle are still struggling to replicate last seasons impressive form which saw them finished 5th in the league.
Swansea's impressive streak came to an end against the opposing in-form side Norwich City. West Brom's form is a slight worry for Steve Clarke, who see's his side drop into sixth.
Chelsea and Fernando Torres are beginning to work as an impressive unit under the guidance of Rafael Benitez. Torres has now scored four goals in two games and is beginning to look the Torres of old as Chelsea attempt to cut the 10 point lead Manchester United have.
Goalkeeper: David De Gea – De Gea had an impressive performance against Manchester City in United's win over City. The Spaniard looks to have cemented his place as number one at United – and pulled off a fantastic save to deny David Silva.
Defence: Glen Johnson gets the nod for his world class goal against West Ham. The right back cut in before smashing the ball in to the top corner. Shawcross and Bassong are our centre back partnership. Bassong is continuning his goal scoring form whilst the brilliant Ryan Shawcross ensured Stoke City kept another clean sheet. Leighton Baines is in at left back with his typical display as Everton's most creative player.
Midfield: Robert Snodgrass played a crucial role in Norwich's win over Swansea with a well taken free kick. James McCarthy scored a late goal with great technique to ensure Wigan earnt a point against QPR whilst Steven Pienaar faced his old club Tottenham Hotspur. The South African scored a late goal which acted as a catalyst for Everton's late revival.
Attack: Fernando Torres is flourishing under the guidance of Rafael Benitez and was cruelly denied a hatrick against Sunderland after his shot ricocheted off the bar. The Spaniard scored from the penalty spot and a well timed volley. Michu continues his fine form with two goals for Swansea against Norwich. The Spaniard is now top in the goal scoring charts in the Premier League. Whilst Wayne Rooney gets the nod for his brace against Manchester City. The United talisman put in a typical display against City which saw him become Manchester United's leading goal scorer against Mancester City.
