Platini admits Real concerns

Uefa president Michel Platini has described Real Madrid's world record bid for Manchester United's Cristiano Ronaldo as "excessive." Madrid have already broken the world record transfer fee this summer when they secured the move of Kaka from Milan for €68m (£59m) on Monday. The Spanish giants look like breaking that figure again with a mind-blowing £80m bid for Cristiano Ronaldo, which has been accepted by Manchester United. "It is very puzzling at a time when football faces some of its worst ever financial challenges," Platini said. "These transfers are a serious challenge to the idea of fair-play and the concept of financial balance in our competitions," he added. The return to the club of billionaire president Florentino Perez has sparked the spending spree which looks set to continue, with Valencia's David Villa also on the club's radar.
