O'Shea extends United stay

23 Nov 2007 - 11:22:40

Republic of Ireland international John O'Shea has pledged his long term-future to Manchester United by penning a three-year extension to his current contract.

The news means that the 26-year-old will stay at Old Trafford until June 2012.

United boss Sir Alex Ferguson told the club's official website: "John has developed in his years here at the club and is now regarded as one of the more experienced players.

"He's proved through his personality and professionalism he's an outstanding credit to the club and I'm delighted he's signed a new contract."

O'Shea, who said earlier in the week that he wanted to follow in the footsteps of team-mates Gary Neville, Paul Scholes and Ryan Giggs and spend his entire career with United, said: "I'm really pleased to be extending my contract with the champions.

"I've been at the club since the age of 17 and it's a dream come true to play for such a great club.

"I hope to play my part in bringing more trophies to the club and to continuing the success with this young, exciting team."

O'Shea, who made his United debut in the Carling Cup defeat at Aston Villa in October 1999, has made 262 appearances for United.

He also played 11 games for Bournemouth during a loan spell at Dean Court in the 1999-2000 campaign and 13 matches for Royal Antwerp in the following season.
