Only bruising for Rio
27 Aug 2006 - 17:05:23
Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand looks to have escaped serious injury after a scan showed that he had not suffered a fracture in Saturday's 2-1 win at Watford.
The former West Ham and Leeds United star limped off the pitch at the final whistle but a scan has shown only bruising.
However, Ferdinand remains a major doubt for England's forthcoming Euro 2008 qualifiers against Andorra and FYR Macedonia, and will have another scan on Monday.
A United spokesman said on Sunday there was bruising to Ferdinand's toe but "no conclusive evidence of a fracture".
England head coach Steve McClaren is already without Gary Neville, Joe Cole and Jamie Carragher for the two matches through injury.
