O'Shea eyes starting spot
18 Aug 2006 - 08:13:57
Manchester United utility man John O'Shea says he is not fazed by the probable arrival of further new faces at Old Trafford and is ready to fight for a starting spot.
The 25-year-old Irishman has fitted in in most positions in defence and attack in recent times, but faces a battle to stay in the starting eleven following the arrival of Michael Carrick and the likely signing of at least one more new player.
O'Shea said: "I am sure the manager is trying to get a few more players in before the deadline. It all adds to the competition but we need that.
"Every season since I have been at Old Trafford there have been players signed in my position, and other players coming in.
"I look forward to it. It's the type of challenge you have to face at a top club.
"When a new player arrives, you up your game, which is something the manager wants to see and it lifts the tempo in the squad, and normally the results are positive."
