Milan close to Beckham loan
22 Oct 2008 - 12:10:56
AC Milan vice-president Adriano Galliani has claimed that his club are all set to clinch the loan signing of former England captain David Beckham from LA Galaxy.
The 33-year-old is being lined up for a move to the San Siro in the new year, as he bids to secure a return to Europe to protect his place in the national team.
Galliani told the Corriere della Sera: "Beckham wants to train and play for Milan. We want him and he will arrive in January for the rest of the season.
"It's not just a shop window deal, it's a great deal. He will be available to coach Carlo Ancelotti for Serie A and the UEFA Cup.
"Football today is about full stadia and sponsors and superstars like Beckham fill them up. With him, Kaka and Ronaldinho, it will be a dream team."
Rossoneri coach Carlo Ancelotti added: "For me it will be a pleasure. David Beckham is a serious athlete and a great professional.
"We will be very happy to have him here for four months and obviously he will be able to play in the league and in Europe."
Former Manchester United and Real Madrid midfielder Beckham currently has 107 England caps to his name, one short of Bobby Moore's record for an outfield player.
Beckham moved to the USA in the summer of 2007, but has been unable to help LA Galaxy to any meaningful success, with his side having failed to make the end-of-season play-offs this season.
