Marco van Ginkel - Analysis of Manchester United's latest transfer target
Manchester United have been linked with a whole host of European stars this summer, which is normal considering the high profile of the Premier League club. One target though, has caught my eye, Vitesse Arnhem's 20-year-old Marco van Ginkel.
The Dutch midfielder has been scouted by a number of top clubs in recent weeks, including Ajax and Premier League rivals Chelsea. Manchester United reportedly sent chief scout to Turkey to watch the youngster during the European Under 21s championship.
The player has added fuel to the fire by saying a move may be possible whilst speaking to Sky Sports News Radio.
“My future? Now I have a vacation and I'll concentrate on that. After my holiday, we will see. Maybe!“
“Manchester United, I didn't know... I have two more years at Vitesse. It's a club who's growing, so I'm also happy there.”
Van Ginkel is a well rounded midfielder, but at 20-years-old he obviously still has room for improvement. His main strengths are his vision and composure on the ball, comparable to a young Steven Gerrard/Frank Lampard. He has a good turn of pace and will use the ball well when in possession, spraying balls wide and more often than not finding that killer pass to feed the forwards. The Netherlands international has a good understanding of the game for someone so young, he'll often play clever one-two's and balls around the corner.
One area of his game that he could really work on is his ability to defend when in his own half, he looks nervous before going into a tackle but this is something that will come with playing matches at a top level at a top club, where he'll get all the coaching and support he needs to take his game to the next level.
Van Ginkel definitely has the ability and skill to make it in Premier League but only if he is playing regularly, something that may not happen straight away at United. So if Moyes did decided to make a move for the youngster loaning him out to a club like West Brom or Fulham could do him a world of good.
Strengths: Vision, finishing, long range shots/passing, team work
Weaknesses: Weak tackling, lack of aggresion
