Manchester United to offer big money deal for Kroos as Moyes plans his summer spending spree?

There were fears amongst Manchester United fans that the club’s poor performances this season and potential failure to secure a Champions’ League spot may make it difficult to attract the stature of player this summer required to secure a revival of the club’s fortunes. On the heels on the news on Wayne Rooney’s mega-bucks new contract however, reports today suggest that the Rooney deal may have been the first manifestation of the club’s money-orientated strategy.

The club have been linked with an approach for Bayern Munich star Toni Kroos, who starred in the Bavarian club’s recent demolition of Arsenal, and whilst there has been no public encouragement from the German club, or the player himself, United seem keen to let him know how they value him. Reports in the Daily Mirror today suggest a salary budget of £250,000 per week should the midfielder move to Old Trafford. With a transfer fee of perhaps some £30milliom required to prise him away from Bayern as well, a three-year deal could cost United of the order of £70miliion.

The figures will sound attractive to Kroos, as it would broadly represent a threefold increase of his current deal in Germany, with Bayern showing a firm reluctance to negotiate any increase. Guardiola will not be afraid to let the 24 year-old leave if he believes the deal is right for his club as he has a number of alternatives in place at the club and will be confident that any move away would not affect the balance and effectiveness of his team.

With progress already made in the pursuit of Porto’s Carvalho and growing interest in Kroos’ Bayern colleague Ilkay Gundogan, being widely reported, United do not seem shy about having their transfer targets openly speculated on. It at least gives them a way of publicly declaring the sort of deals that may be available on the summer. That, at least, will give the fans some hopes of a brighter future ahead.
