Manchester United thoughts not on Barcelona says Patrice Evra

Published: 12 May 2009 - 12:09:15

United can secure their third successive title, and the club's eighteenth in total, by claiming four points from their next two games, against Wigan at the JJB on Wednesday and the visit of Arsenal on Saturday lunchtime. Clinching the league championship would complete the first leg of a league and European Cup double prior to the Champions League clash with Barcelona in Rome on May 27. But after edging to within touching distance of the title with a 2-0 victory over Manchester City on Sunday, French full-back Evra admits that the league is now the sole focus within the United dressing room. He said: "The win against City was very important for the team because, to play after the European Cup semi-final against Arsenal was not an easy situation. "All that mattered was the three points so, we are very happy to have collected them. "We were well aware Liverpool had gone top again on Saturday, so we did our job very well. "But now we have the game at Wigan on Wednesday and, if we win that one, maybe we can smell the title. "We are nearly there, but the job is not finished yet. We have a Champ ions League final to look forward to, but we have to put that to the back of our minds and concentrate on the league." United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has injury worries ahead of the trip to face Steve Bruce's Wigan. Rio Ferdinand, who missed the victory against City with a calf strain, remains a doubt and Brazilian midfielder Anderson is also struggling to make the game after sitting out the City fixture. Ferguson admits that he will shuffle his squad at the JJB in a bid to keep his squad fresh for the clash with Arsenal less than 72 hours later. Ferguson said: "It's a hard game and we will only have had three days to prepare, so I'll freshen my team up "We'll make two or three changes again. We need to do that, to keep the squad playing. I've got a big squad, so I will use it."
