Whilst Manchester United are trying to keep Wayne Rooney away from hungry hands with the offer of the captaincy and a new £300,000 a week contract, the transfer merry-go-round continues to gather pace as the closure of the January window approaches.

DAILY MIRROR

Wayne Rooney will be made Manchester United skipper if he commits himself to the club by signing a new £300,000-a-week deal.

West Ham hope to sign Southampton striker Dani Osvaldo, who is currently suspended for fighting teammate Jose Fonte.

Chelsea are prepared to challenge Manchester United in a bid to land Southampton starlet Luke Shaw this week.
