Manchester United target Kroos may fly the Coop

It’s no secret that since the retirement of Paul Scholes, Manchester United have been desperate to acquire a central midfield player who can score goals. In fact this has gone on since even before he retired, when his average goal tally for the season began to dry up. Initially Anderson was brought in with the hope that he would fill the role, but he turned out to be a bitter disappointment and has since been shipped out on loan to Fiorentina.

In the summer transfer window of this season it was widely publicised that United were in a frenzy to sign midfielder Ander Herrera from Athletic Bilbao on the last day. This infamously fell through however with lawyers getting involved in a rather odd fashion.

United have now turned their sights towards Bayern Munich midfielder Toni Kroos, reportedly being prepared to fork out £40million to secure his services. Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, the current chief executive officer of the FC Bayern München AG, a daughter company of Bayern Munich, has told The Red Devils, in no uncertain terms, that Kroos is not leaving Bayern Munich, saying, "I can promise you that Toni will play for Bayern next season." This is quite contradictory to a statement he apparently made to his team-mates, telling them he was “determined” to join United.

Will he stay or will he go? Only time will tell.
