Manchester Uniteds Nemanja Vidic admits team guilty of easing off

Published: 09 Apr 2009 - 10:02:33

United put themselves on course for an historic clean sweep of trophies by losing only once in a run of 31 matches in all competitions from early November to mid-March. However, their form of late has deteriorated considerably, with many now questioning whether they can last the distance in both the Champions League and Premier League. United have yet to fully recover from their 4-1 humbling at the hands of Liverpool, and while they hold a one-point advantage over Rafa Benitez's men, with a game in hand, in the Premier League, they have given themselves a mountain to climb to qualify for the semi-finals of the European Cup following their 2-2 home draw against Porto. Vidic said: "Have we been guilty of easing off? To be honest, maybe. "Against Liverpool, maybe you can say we took it easier because we had a game in hand and there was a big gap in points. We didn't think we were relaxed, but maybe we were. "After that first bad game against Liverpool, we needed to put things right, but we didn't. "We've definitely had a bad period, we haven't done well, we have conceded many goals. We've made the job hard - both in the Premier League and the Champions League after the result with Porto. The second leg will be a difficult game. "We need fresh bodies because many of the players are playing a lot at the moment. It's difficult. But we have a lot of experience and hopefully that will help us through this period."
