Manchester United parade Premier League trophy

ShareThousands of Manchester United fans took to the streets on Monday for an open-top bus parade to celebrate the club's record-breaking 19th Barclays Premier League crown but it was all a bit gloomy. Spirits were not dampened during the rain-sodden affair despite United's 3-1 defeat to Barcelona in the Champions League final on Saturday night which means they showcased just one trophy instead of two. United striker Dimitar Berbatov took part in the parade despite his omission from manager Sir Alex Ferguson's squad at Wembley. On the buses: Manchester United players celebrate with the Premier League trophy at the city centre parade In keeping with the mood of gloom that followed Saturday's defeat, grey skies opened overnight and the rain poured as United made their way downDeansgate.Along with Berbatov, Paul Scholes and Michael Owen, who posted a picture on Twitter of him sitting behind team-mate Wayne Rooney on the bus, were also present despite huge uncertainty over their futures. Easy does it: United defender Patrice Evra appears to have trouble keeping hold of the Premier League trophy Owen's contract has expired and so far there has been no announcement onthe possibility of an extension, even though the 31-year-old has confirmed he would love to stay on. Scholes has been offered a one-year extension but has refused to confirm whether he wants to accept it or not. We're the best: Ferdinand takes to the mic as a team-mate holds up a t-shirt which says it all to Liverpool fans United's 19th title is symbolic as it sees them overtake Liverpool as the most successful club in English domestic football. But the mood was in stark contrast to Barca's celebrations on Sunday. Lionel Messi and co received a hero's welcome in the Catalan capital after flying back to Spain from London. Happy snapper: Owen was quick to post this picture up on Twitter of him sitting behind Rooney at the parade They boarded an open-top bus which was driven through fan-lined streets before they partied with 94,000 more at the Nou Camp.During the five-minute long break from the show, Shakira instructed some of Pique's team-mates,  including Xavi, Bojan Krkić and Sergio Busquets who were also present, to imitate her seductive dance moves with varying success. Stark contrast: Barcelona celebrate winning the Champions League trophy on their own bus parade on Sunday United defender John O'Shea, who alsomissed out on a place on the bench against Barca, claimed the parade would help his team-mates get over their defeat. 'With the weather, we wondered if anyone would turn out,' he told MUTV. 'We never should have doubted it. 'It makes you realise how important this club is to people and will help the players get over what happened on Saturday.' Dancing the night away: Shakira got some of the Barca stars up on stage to show their moves at her concert As for Rooney, the United striker has already set his sights on securing title number 20, and says the defeat to Barcelona should be left in the past. Snubbed: But Dimitar Berbatov still turned up for the parade despite not playing against Barcelona at Wembley He said: 'Winning the league is a massive achievement. We have to forget about what happened on Saturday and move on. The idea now is to win the 20th. We will be fighting hard to make sure we are there again next season.'  Gerrard's high five: Liverpool skipper revels in arch-rivals Wembley misery Evra targets revenge after United humbled for the second time by BarcelonaMANCHESTER UNITED FC
