Manchester United granted street parade for Champions League

Published: 13 May 2009 - 13:32:20

Manchester United will be permitted a vitory parade if they beat Barcelona in the Champions League final later this month. The club were denied a similar parade last season following Rangers fans' bad behaviour before and after the UEFA Cup final at Manchester City's Eastlands Stadium. But Trafford Metropolitan Borough Council have confirmed there will be a parade on May 28 if United defend the trophy in Rome. 'First of all, congratulations to the team for reaching the final, which is an incredible achievement in itself,' said Councillor Mike Amesbury, executive member for Culture and Leisure at Manchester City Council. 'We would be delighted to see the team now go on and win the Champions League and celebrate in the appropriate way with a parade through the city.'
