Man United whizkid Macheda robbed at home as Premier League attacks go on

Published: 13 Jul 2009 - 10:42:30

Manchester United striker Federico Macheda was robbed in his home, police said today.   The 17-year-old Italian was robbed at his home in Washway Road, Sale, at 3.40am yesterday after he was targeted by two thieves who stole money and jewellery.   His friend was attacked and suffered minor head injuries during the robbery.    A spokesman for Greater Manchester Police said: 'Two men stole cash and jewellery from the victims before running out of the house. 'One man suffered a minor cut to his head in the robbery. Inquiries are ongoing.' The police spokesman was unable to confirm reports that the attack was linked to a row earlier in the evening outside a Manchester city-centre nightclub. Several Premier League footballers have been the victims of robberies in recent years. Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard's wife, Alex Curran, was targeted, while England striker Emile Heskey has also suffered from armed raiders at his home.
