League to discuss Fergie boycott
23 Aug 2010 - 08:38:12
The Premier League will discuss Sir Alex Ferguson's continued BBC boycott at its next board meeting in September.
Ferguson opted not to speak to the BBC following Manchester United's 2-2 draw with Fulham at Craven Cottage on Sunday despite pre-match suggestions that he was poised to end his six-year snub of the corporation.
Instead assistant Michael Phelan spoke to the Match of the Day cameras as has been the case in recent seasons.
The Premier League admitted in a statement that Ferguson's stance is a breach of their regulations and have suggested that action - including a series of fines - could now be taken.
"The Premier League is disappointed that the BBC and Manchester United have, as yet, been unable to resolve the issue of Sir Alex Ferguson providing post-match interviews," read the statement.
"We will, of course, continue to monitor the situation and offer any help deemed necessary by either party to try and help remedy the situation.
"However, this is a breach of Premier League rules and the board will consider the appropriate course of action at their next meeting scheduled for late September."
Ferguson has boycotted the BBC since a 2006 documentary investigated the business activities of his son.
