Keegan's Rooney rant

Kevin Keegan has launched a scathing attack on Manchester United's totally out of form Wayne Rooney. The ex-City and England boss, who now works as a TV pundit, reckons Rooney's confidence is shot. Keegan, who famously ranted against Sir Alex Ferguson while battling as Newcastle boss with United for the '96 title, has put himself on collision course once again. Of Rooney's substitution through injury an hour into the Reds' 2-2 draw at the Reebok, Keegan said: His performance at Bolton tells me his confidence is shot. For United to get back to where they should be and winning at places like Bolton, they need to be getting Wayne Rooney firing on all cylinders. Fergie himself has complained that the attention on Rooney, following lurid front page allegations about him paying a prostitute and then successfully patching up his marriage to celebrity wife Coleen, had been affecting his form. But Keegan said: You can't have all the contracts, you can't sell your wedding to magazines and things like this and suddenly say, That's the tap I want to turn on but we want to turn the other one off.' But it's just one tap and I know from when I played that, if you are advertising boots and all these things, you have to go and make appearances. You are going to appear in the paper. But the one thing I would say is keep your home and your family out of it and just take your endorsements if that's what you want to do. You can't then turn around and say there's too much paparazzi around or there is too much publicity. One minute you are courting it, the next minute you're saying I don't want this.' Rooney is, meanwhile, expected to be fit to fly to Spain on Tuesday morning and take his place in United's Euro attack against Valencia on Wednesday, despite limping out of the game with an ankle injury. Rooney hasn't scored a goal in open play for the Reds since United's last Champions League away match against Bayern Munich in March's quarter final first leg. He smashed the last of his 34-goal haul in Germany before suffering his ankle problem and subsequent poor World Cup with England. His ankle was packed in ice yesterday at Bolton when he came off but he has been given the green light to be on the plane to Spain. Ryan Giggs, however, will miss the Euro Group C tie after suffering a hamstring injury at the Reebok and is set to be out for two weeks. When will Rooney regain his form? Have your say.
