Is Moyes starting to get it right at Manchester United?
Manchester United are now unbeaten in six games and have recorded three straight victories with the 1-0 win over Real Sociedad, 3-2 win over Stoke on Saturday and 4-0 win over Norwich on Tuesday night.
Moyes was subject to criticism with united fans venting their anger at Moyes for the lack of opportunities given to Shinji Kagawa who is seen as the ideal replacement for the retired Scholes. Fans have also been disheartened by Javier Hernandez being constantly overlooked and what is perceived as negative tactics by bringing on defensive substitutes in the latter stages of games.
Despite some indifferent performances there does seem to be some momentum building after a difficult start to the season including defeats at Liverpool and Manchester City.
Two players responsible for the improvement is Belgian teenager Januzaj and Mexican striker Hernandez who has now scored three goals in two games. Januzaj appears to be taking the step up to the first team in his stride and gives Manchester United that spark which was missing in the early stages of the season.
Hernandez was overlooked at the beginning of the season but now looks to be in David Moyes first team plans. The Mexican scored the winner against Stoke on Saturday and after two goals against Norwich has put himself in line for a starting place at Fulham on Saturday.
Manchester United assistant manager Steve Round told BBC: “Javier Hernandez is such a good character. I don’t think [his lack of first team action this season] has fazed him at all. He is a really infectious character who loves to score goals. He has waited patiently for his opportunities and when he gets then he has taken them.”
Manchester United’s fixtures in November include Fulham, Real Sociedad, Cardiff and Bayer Leverkusen away and Arsenal at home. The results of these games will give a clear indication if United have now turned the corner and can challenge for honours.
